Oaks are essential to the ecosystem and in Illinois, we celebrate them the entire month of October. It’s a great time of year to plant an oak because fall planting gives the tree an extra growing season before the stress of summer. The combination of cooler temperatures and fall rain allows the newly-planted oak to establish roots, making it easier to adjust to any weather extremes that may arrive with the onset of summer.
